Woman in Coma Gives Birth
January 9, 2019
PHOENIX, AZ — On December 29 of last year, a woman delivered a baby boy. However, the woman had been in a coma for 10 years. She was a patient at the Hacienda HealthCare facility in Phoenix.
Police looked into reports of a sexual assault after the event. They issued a search warrant on Tuesday to collect DNA samples from all male workers at the facility.
Hacienda HealthCare bills itself as a leading provider of specialized health care services. The facility serves ill and fragile infants, children, teens, and young adults. In addition, it serves those with mental disabilities. There are 60 beds in the facility.
A drowning put the woman into a coma ten years ago. But she went into labor on the 29th of December. Moreover, no one at the facility knew that she was pregnant. Initially, healthcare staff members were unsure why the woman was moaning, media reports said.
A longtime top executive at the facility resigned on Monday after the event. Bill Timmons, Hacienda HealthCare’s CEO, ended his own employed status from the company effective right away. David Leibowitz, a spokesman for Hacienda, reported that “Timmons’ resignation was accepted” by the entire Board of Directors at the facility.
Moreover, in the same statement, Hacienda HealthCare board member Gary Orman assured patients and the community. He asserted that the facility would continue to work with Phoenix Police. Orman called the incident a “horrifying situation” which has “devastated everyone involved.”
