Severe Truck Crash on I-10 Left 1 Dead and 3 Injured in Phoenix

PHOENIX, Arizona — Interstate 10 has reopened in Phoenix after one person was killed in a chain-reaction crash.


The crash happened when two drivers stopped their vehicles along eastbound I-10 at 51st Avenue to exchange information, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Two other drivers stopped their vehicles behind them and a box truck traveling behind was unable to stop and struck the rear-most vehicle, causing a chain-reaction crash.


One person was killed in the crash and another person was seriously injured. A fatal crash involving several vehicles caused a major traffic backup on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 in Phoenix Monday morning.


According to DPS, the incident started when two drivers got were involved in a minor crash. The drivers stopped on the freeway when a truck plowed into the back of the cars.


The eastbound lanes were closed throughout the morning traffic. All lanes were reopened just before 8 a.m.
