An Officer-Involving Shooting Under Investigation: 8 Suspects Detained

PHOENIX, Arizona – An officer-involving shooting is being investigated by the Phoenix Police Department early Thursday morning.

 

Phoenix PD was serving a warrant related to a drug investigation at the home when the suspect began firing shots at officers, according to Sgt. Mercedes Fortune.

 

The shooting happened near 23rd Avenue and Roeser Road in Phoenix. Police said a suspect in the home fired at least one shot through the door at officers. Some of the officers were hit by bullet shrapnel or pieces of wood from the door.

 

According to police, one of the officers fired once into the home to allow the other officers to take cover.

 

The suspect was then taken into custody.

 

Police said no officers or suspects were injured in the shooting near 19th and Southern avenues.

 

This is the second officer-involved shooting in as many days. This shooting comes after a committee approved Police Chief Jeri Williams request for funding to study the increase in shootings.

 

Eight suspects were detained. Police said no officers or suspects were hurt.

 

The shooting is the 43rd officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County so far this year, tying the total for 2017.
